Sky News Interview on Duty of Care Following Jeremy Kyle Show Death

Reality TV Psychologist Expert Reality Psychology Fitness for Inclusion

Our Founder and Director of Services, Honey Langcaster-James CPsychol, was interviewed by Kay Burley on Sky News and asked for her views on the Duty of Care that TV production companies have towards their participants.

She was asked what advice she would give to someone wanting to appear on a TV show and she said

Check that the production company you’re working with, and if you’re appearing on a TV show then you are working on that show, has appropriate provision in place to safeguard your welfare. It should entail a pre-screening process, to flag up whether anybody needs further investigation into their mental well-being, and check what provision will there be during filming, but also what kind of aftercare you can access.”

She went on to say

The best production companies will have a comprehensive aftercare programme in place, so contributors can access psychological welfare services after a production has ended without having to go back through producers. This is important because they often see producers as holding the key to more TV exposure and that can be a barrier towards them reaching out and accessing support.
